Portland Pipe Line Corporation Wins API Safety And Environmental Performance Distinguished Award Second Year In Row

Recently API awarded its 2012 Distinguished Award for Outstanding Safety and Environmental Performance to Portland Pipe Line Corporation. Portland captured the same award last year. This is API’s highest safety and environmental performance award for pipeline operators and was presented to the company at API’s 64th annual pipeline conference in Coronado, California.

“Winning the award two years in row is a testament to Portland’s top-to-bottom commitment to safety and environmental performance,” said API Pipeline Director Peter Lidiak. “Many operators had excellent records. This level of performance is where every company would like to be.”

Portland won the Distinguished Award in the small operator category. No large operator won this award this year. The award reflects the company’s continuing record of safe and environmentally sound operations, its excellent safety management systems and integrity management programs, the commitment and expertise of its employees, and the company’s commitment to safety and environmental excellence at the senior management and board levels.

Portland Pipe Line Corporation is based in South Portland, Maine, and operates a system of pump stations and crude oil pipelines that traverse 236 miles along a common right-of-way from the state of Maine to Quebec.

Phillips 66 Pipe Line LLC won the Occupational Safety Performance Award for large operators. In the small operator category, five companies shared that honor, including CITGO Pipeline Company, Equistar Chemicals, LP – Equistar Pipelines, Portland Pipe Line Corporation, Rose Rock Midstream Crude L.P., and TransMontaigne Product Services Inc., all reporting no OSHA recordable incidents for employees and contractors.

The Environmental Performance Award in the small operator category, with each recipient reporting no releases, went to Equistar Chemicals, LP – Equistar Pipelines and Portland Pipe Line Corporation. Koch Pipeline Company, L.P., won the award in the large operator category.
