Fiomarine Breaks Into The Oil & Gas Market
Fiomarine has successfully entered the Oil & Gas market with a sale of its Fiobuoys into the expanding Western Australian market. URS Australia has recently placed an order for five Fiobuoys to assist in its offshore underwater operations.
The Tasmanian Company that has been supplying its Fiobuoy all-in-one underwater retrieval system to the national and international Defence market for over ten years, has recently changed its focus towards the lucrative and growing Oil & Gas market.
Fiomarine first introduced the Fiobuoy to offshore customers at the Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference (AOG) in Perth, Western Australia (WA) earlier this year where it was very well received and recognised as an economical and reliable alternative for recovering underwater equipment.
It was from the show that URS Australia first showed an interest in using the Fiobuoys for retrieving monitoring instruments in a pipeline construction off the coast of WA.
URS Australia provides a range of professional engineering and environmental services to a variety of marine industries. It is a subsidiary of the San Francisco based URS Corporation which employs more than 47,000 people worldwide.
Supplying to such a large and established organisation within the industry is an encouraging first step into Oil & Gas for Fiomarine, particularly as the Company has only just begun targeting that market.
After AOG 2009 proved such a success for the Company, Fiomarine will again be exhibiting at the next AOG Perth show from the 24th to the 26th March 2010.
Fiomarine defies odds as 2009 proves to be a success
As many companies still feel the effects of the Global Financial Crisis, the second half of 2009 is proving to
be a success for Fiomarine. As well as penetrating the Oil & Gas market, the Company has continued to
make inroads into the large international Marine Research market with sales to both Singapore and China.
An agent representing Fiomarine in China, LinkOcean Technologies Ltd, has recently placed its first Fiobuoy order for the Chinese Government's National Marine Environmental Monitoring Center (SOA). The Fiobuoys will be used to recover sediment traps on sea bottom frames. They are due to receive their order in November, and will begin using them by the end of the year.
Fiomarine has also recently supplied Fiobuoys to DHI Water & Environment (S) Pte Ltd in Singapore. DHI Singapore is a research and consultancy company providing a range of water and environmental engineering and science services. Many of its clients are Singapore Government Agencies involved in marine infrastructure development.
Fiobuoys will be used as part of DHI Singapore's underwater equipment set up for environmental monitoring around Singapore and many other parts of the world. It will be used to recover Acoustic Current Doppler Profiles that measure current speed, direction and wave. According to the Survey and Monitoring Department, the Fiobuoy was chosen by DHI Singapore because of its attractive price plan, as well as features including the internal modem and infra red system.
Communicating with the Fiobuoy via infra red means there are no plugs and sockets. This provides another level of reliability as the unit has increased protection against leaks.
Fiomarine has long focused on the international Defence market, but more recently has begun branching out towards more commercial marine markets which is proving to be the right decision.
As well as the AOG in 2010, the Company will also have a representative attend the Oceanology International show (Oi10) in London next year (9-11 March). They will be supporting Fiomarine's agent in the United Kingdom - RS Aqua Ltd - who will be exhibiting a Fiobuoy in Booth F550.
