July 8, 2004: Aurora, Colo. - The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) announced the speakers for the panel discussion highlighting the opening session of its GIS for Oil & Gas Conference, set for Sept. 20-22, 2004, in Houston, Texas.

The panel discussion will include perspectives from senior-level executives representing a range of leading oil and gas organizations. Topics of discussion will include the role of geographic information systems (GIS) within their organizations, how return on investment affects funding of GIS projects, the impact of geospatial technologies on pipeline integrity, and GIS implementation strategies.

The confirmed speakers include Sue Barry, vice president of engineering services at El Paso Energy; Walter Ferguson, vice president of pipeline operation at CenterPoint Energy ; Steve Holmstoen, senior vice president of delivery services at CenterPoint Energy; Dick Keyser, vice president of operations and engineering at Panhandle Energy; and Scott Parker, vice president of business development at Kinder Morgan.

Conference Chair Greg McCool of El Paso Corp. in Houston said the conference committee developed the panel discussion as a response to input from attendees of previous GIS for Oil & Gas conferences. "Many people told us that they wanted to hear from company executives-the people in control of project development and funding," he said. "I'm pleased that we've put together this panel of executives, and I'm looking forward to a thought-provoking discussion on executives' perspectives of GIS in our industry."

The conference, expanded this year to three full days, will be held at Houston's JW Marriott Hotel.
