Data Cleanup Software and Services is composed of two parts: technology and people. The technology used is Petris' WINDS-Data Auditor software. This well data auditing and correction application enables the use of a Web browser to make quick queries and on-screen comparisons of the suspect database to various information sources for the purposes of data rectification and cleanup. The second component lies in Petris Technology's ability to provide experienced, knowledgeable professionals to organize and staff such operations.
Data quality specialists will use WINDS-Data Auditor to compare a copy of a "dirty" database against various data sources to confirm, change, or replace erroneous information. These sources can be scanned original documents, other databases, or industry records provided by the operators at various points in the well's life cycle. Industry sources may also need to be contacted about specific or missing information.
"Changed" data is stored in a temporary database for review by the client who can approve or reject the alteration. A key feature of the software is the ability to keep track of who nominated a change and why, thus enabling client reviewers to confidently make corrections to their database.

Petris Technology will be using the WINDS-Data Auditor in New Orleans, Louisiana to help the Mineral Management Service clean up inaccurate or missing data problems that may exist in the Technical Information Management System (TIMS) well database and associated well data (e.g. directional surveys, velocity surveys) from operations in the Gulf of Mexico Region.
