University Of Aberdeen Will Host The Annual Energy Industries Overview
The University of Aberdeen will host the annual Energy Industries Overview training event from 7 – 8 April 2009, for those wishing to gain an introductory understanding of the issues and activities affecting the oil and gas and renewable energy industries.
Now in its 16th year the event is designed to provide non-technical staff or those in support roles with a basic knowledge of offshore field development activities from licensing through to decommissioning and the external regulatory and economic influences.
Bringing together senior representatives from some of the major oil operating and service companies, and government and trade associations alongside key experts from academia, the event aims to put the future sustainability of the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors into context.
John Wils, formerly Director of Operations and Technical Affairs for the United Kingdom Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA) who is facilitating the oil and gas overview said: "Over the years, this unique annual event has provided non-technical professionals and those in support roles with the opportunity to learn from experienced managers from various disciplines.
"We have continually updated the programme to reflect the increasing technical challenges to locate and extract the remaining reserves from our offshore fields. Changing government policies and regulations will also be addressed together with the importance of the industry from an international perspective.
"This is an excellent opportunity for delegates to increase their knowledge and participate in sustaining this vital industry whilst our energy needs are progressively replaced by alternative energy sources."
Iain Todd, Renewables Champion with Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG), who is facilitating the event's renewable energy overview said: "In 2006 we added a renewable overview to the long-established 'Introduction to oil and gas' making this an unmissable event for anyone wishing to get in touch with the important issues facing the energy sector today.
"Speakers on renewables will be covering the policies, the technologies, and the business opportunities in a sector which is growing at a remarkable rate, and is seldom out of the news."
The Energy Industries Overview training event will take place at the University of Aberdeen's King's College Centre, from Tuesday 7th to Wednesday 8th April 2009.
