WEG Introduces WGM Water Jacket Cooled Motor

January 5, 2010

Atlanta, GA - WEG Electric Corp., a leading global supplier of motors, drives, controls, transformers, and generators, announces the release of the WGM Water Jacket Cooled Motor, ideal for extreme environments with space constraints. Available immediately, the WGM Water Jacket Cooled Motor was designed to meet the most demanding applications, including marine duty, cement, mining, petrochemical, steel, wind energy, pulp and paper, and more. The motor is ideal for aggressive operating conditions where high output power versus frame size ratio is required. Other advantages of the Water Jacket Cooled motor include lower noise level, compact construction, reduced thermal dissipation, and variable frequency drive operation.

"Water-cooled WGM motors are perfect for variable speed applications, since the thermal efficiency is optimized, even on reduced speeds, where space is a concern," said Steve Waite, Large Machines Manager, WEG Electric Corp. "Harsh environments with high temperatures, limited space or dusty conditions are ideal for the use of the Water Jacket Cooled Motor."

Featuring a cooling system that maintains thermal efficiency, the motor remains cool in the most aggressive conditions. Through the circulation of water over the frame construction and endshields, the system allows an effective thermal exchange between the motor and water, and increases the output power versus frame size ratio. Additionally, the system minimizes the heat exchange with the environment and cools the bearings without requiring an independent cooling system.
