Additional Order For Intersense IS-900 And Plans For Co-Development Of Desktop Visualization System

Bedford, MA - InterSense, Inc., recently announced that Hydro, offshore producer of oil and gas, has installed its tenth InterSense IS-900 Precision Motion Tracking System as part of Hydro's large scale immersive visualization rooms. Each room is used to view and study oil reservoirs through Hydro VR, a software package developed by Hydro that allows drilling engineers, geophysicists and geologists to become immersed in a virtual reality model based on seismic data. Wearing 3-D glasses, the engineers and researchers can virtually walk into the fields and achieve a better understanding of the oilfield and its behavior.

Hydro VR dramatically diminishes time used on well planning, cutting work that once took two to three weeks down to just a few days. Along with providing very precise, jitter free tracking, a key benefit of integrating InterSense's IS-900 motion tracking devices into the display system is the elimination of wires in the immersive display area. Removing "trip hazards" associated with wired tracking devices helps address a major safety issue faced when working in dark immersive environments with several people viewing datasets. In addition, the wireless devices reduce awareness of the tracking equipment, thus increasing the immersion effect and allowing the user to concentrate on the data and tasks.

The solution also allows remote collaboration between Hydro employees around the world. Offices in Houston, Texas and Bergen, Norway can remotely tap home-based experts and teams to diagnose issues and evaluate prospects together in real-time. Hydro has also developed a desktop version of the large scale displays to permit collaboration in remote locations lacking access to specially-equipped virtually reality rooms.

"Over the four years we have worked with InterSense, they have been a tremendous partner as we have integrated virtual reality systems into our business," stated Hydro geophysicist Jens Grimsgaard. "As we begin the next phase of our relationship, we look forward to working with InterSense to bring the benefits of high-end visualization systems down to the desktop - offering a cost-effective alternative for oil and gas exploration."

"We're pleased to be able to advance our partnership with Hydro, extending it from providing hardware into a collaborative situation in which we assist in the development of scalable solutions that will further benefit the industry," stated Mike Donfrancesco, vice president of sales at InterSense. "We look forward to further building the strong relationship between our two companies, as the requirements in the oil and gas industry continue to change."
