API: Keystone XL Project Critical To Safely Delivering Energy To American Families And Should Move Forward Without Delay

The American Petroleum Institute issued a statement today in support of President Trump’s issuance of a new Presidential permit for Keystone XL (KXL). Today’s action reaffirms the national importance of this critical project to U.S. consumers and energy security and will help drive the project towards completion after more than 10 years of extensive environmental review.

“We applaud the Administration for taking a no-nonsense approach to permitting this essential critical infrastructure project. The Keystone XL Pipeline has passed every environmental review conducted over the last decade under both the Obama and Trump administrations. Every study has concluded it can be built safely, with no significant impact to the environment,” said API’s President and CEO, Mike Sommers.

The KXL Pipeline will create thousands of high-paying jobs, add millions of dollars to the nation’s economy and safely transport oil to Texas refineries where thousands of American workers are employed.

Multiple federal and state agencies have conducted numerous environmental reviews of the project since 2008, all of which have concluded that constructing KXL is in the national interest and does not pose significant environmental impacts. In addition, the project was approved by Congress in 2015 and the Nebraska Public Service Commission in 2017.
