Application Guide To Mass Flow Measurement In The Petroleum Industry

Source: Sierra Instruments, Inc.

The measurement and control of gas flows in production, refinery, and R&D operations has a direct effect on efficiency, costs, safety, and environmental standards. Sierra mass flow meters and controllers provide direct, fast-response measurement at all levels, to make any operation more effective. Here is a brief summary of the advantages they offer the industry.

The MMS (Mineral Management Service) will soon require producers to monitor flare gas flows from oil and gas production wells. Wide variations in flow rates make this a difficult application. The normal flow rate to the flare is zero; when pressure in the separator is vented to the flare, the flow rate increases immediately, then declines to zero as the pressure is relieved.
