Xylem's Godwin Pumps Dewater Flooded Oil Refinery In Argentina

Xylem, a leading global water technology company focused on addressing the world’s most challenging water issues, recently secured a $1.1M order for specialised dewatering equipment after successfully dewatering a flooded oil refinery outside the city of La Plata in Argentina.

As a result of a massive electric storm, the state-run Ensenada oil refinery caught fire and the oil refinery’s pump station and surrounding pathways were completely flooded. Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF), which operates the facility, commissioned Xylem to remove the flood water in order to get the refinery back in operation as soon as possible.

Three of Xylem’s Godwin Dri-Prime CD150M dewatering pumps and one Godwin Dri-Prime HL130M pump removed a total of 208,000 cubic metres of water in less than one week.

Following the flooding incident YPF purchased a total of 15 high power dewatering pumps from Xylem - eight Godwin Dri-Prime CD300M pumps and seven Godwin Dri-Prime CD150M pumps with a combined dewatering capacity of 13,000 cubic metres per hour - in order to be prepared for such a flooding emergency in future.

Gustavo Chaab YPF Refinery Manager said, “The Ensenada plant is a significant facility with the capacity of refining 188,000 barrels of oil on a daily basis. It was crucial that we got the plant back in operation as soon as possible which the Xylem team succeeded in doing. The Godwin pumps that we have purchased will ensure that we are fully prepared for such an event in future.”

Osvaldo Greco, Director Xylem South America said, “Our Godwin Dri-Prime CD Series is a powerful portfolio of pumps ideally suited to emergency situations such as this. Through our Godwin and Flygt brands we can offer our customers extensive expertise in delivering pumping solutions for disaster recovery situations like this one.”

With a rental bank of 20,000 products, Xylem offers the world’s leading range of surface-mounted and submersible pumps from one source.
