The Oil and Gas business all begins with the successful generation of new hydrocarbon plays. Until a well is drilled to reach the target formations often buried many kilometers underground, it is all theory and conjecture. The pre-planning and actual operational time required to get to the target horizons and ascertain the presence or absence of hydrocarbons requires a lot of effort from a well experienced team of drilling folk. Making hole is never easy. Doing it effectively with minimum downtime i.e. reducing non-productive time (NPT) is a key objective. While proper maintenance and adequate spare parts can successfully address mechanical deficiencies, the challenges of drilling new wells are often quite large. This course will incorporate 'learnings' from various case studies. In order to better grasp the principles behind a drilling operation, team sessions will be utilized to enable the students to get a hands-on feel for a drilling operation.
