The seminar is designed to provide an introductory overview of shale gas (& oil) exploration and production for financial analysts, bankers & lawyers familiar with the topic but lacking any formal education in it. It assumes little prior geo-scientific knowledge. After attending this seminar participants will be able to understand and discuss technical shale gas issues with professional geoscientists and engineers. About the trainer Dick Selley is a Senior Research Fellow and Emeritus Professor of Petroleum Geology at Imperial College, London. Dick has been involved in the exploration for petroleum in the UK and abroad for 50 years both employed in industry, as an academic researcher and as an independent consultant. It is over 25 years since he drew attention to the UK's shale gas resources, first to HMG and then to the wider world. His research was ignored for many years. He now works nationally and internationally as a consultant in shale gas exploration. Dick was the first witness summoned to give evidence to the Parliamentary Select Committee of Enquiry into Shale gas in February 2011. He is a co-author of the 2012 Royal Society/Royal Academy of Engineering report on shale gas & hydraulic fracturing. Dick Selley has received various national and international honours including the Silver Medal of the Geological Society of London awarded for excellence in petroleum geoscience. He is an Honorary Member of the Petroleum Exploration Society of GB.
