Avoiding Outages With Hydrogen Leak Detection Technology
By FLIR Systems, Inc - Optical Gas Imaging

A power plant must keep up maintenance of the hydrogen-cooled generators for the safety of its workers and the environment, as well as for efficient operation of the plant. Traditional methods for hydrogen leak detection in a cooling system may be able to find the general area where hydrogen is present but can be unreliable at finding the source of the leak. The introduction of optical gas imaging cameras has greatly improved the efficiency and performance of leak detection. With the addition of a dedicated thermal imaging camera for CO2 leak detection, utilities now have a way to efficiently find hydrogen leaks while using CO2 as a tracer gas.

An Overview Of Recent Changes To The Single/Dual Process Seal Standards
By Bob Botwinski, Magnetrol International.

Two is better than one, right? Applying this old adage is often good guidance, but sometimes it’s just not appropriate.

V-Cone Flow Meter Conforms To API 22.2 Testing Protocol
By McCrometer, Inc.

In The American Petroleum Institute Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards, Chapter 5.7 (API 5.7), a testing protocol is specified for differential pressure flow measurement devices. The protocol was written to apply to all flow measurement devices that measure single-phase fluid flow based on the detection of a differential pressure created in the fluid flow stream. This standard was published in January 2003 “to supply industry with a comparable description of the capabilities of these devices for the measurement of single-phase fluid flow when they are used under similar operating conditions.”

Leveraging Predictive Analytics: A Case Study

Often the first notification of a spill comes from a member of the public, hours and sometimes days after the first spill. This can intensify public health and environmental impacts and the cost of cleanup efforts. Following a sewer spill at an environmentally significant site at Midway Point in August 2017, TasWater sought a way to reduce the likelihood and impact of spill events occurring in the future.

Life Cycle Instrumentation Solutions For Midstream Oil And Gas

The transporting and storing of hydrocarbon in its various forms are complex, ever-evolving processes that can present costly challenges — challenges with the potential to threaten profitability, worker safety, and the environment. To face these obstacles head-on, process transparency is key. That’s why midstream oil and gas operators need to protect every infrastructure investment with rugged, reliable measurement technology. From pipelines to tank farms, from crude oil to natural gas to LNG, Siemens has an array of high-performance field instruments to monitor the health and efficiency of any midstream application.
