IDE Technologies Shortlisted For Two Global Water Awards – Desalination Company Of The Year And Desalination Plant Of The Year

IDE Technologies is pleased to announce that it has been shortlisted in two categories of the Global Water Awards, including Desalination Company of the Year, which IDE won in 2011. This award honors desalination plant suppliers that made the greatest overall contribution to the desalination industry in 2013. IDE’s Sorek plant, the world’s largest and most advanced seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant, has also been shortlisted for Desalination Plant of the Year, which recognizes desalination plants commissioned in 2013 that represent the most impressive technical or ecologically sustainable achievement in the industry.

Each year, the Global Water Awards acknowledge the most important achievements in the international water industry in several categories, including Desalination Company of the Year, Desalination Plant of the Year, and Desalination Deal of the Year, which IDE won in 2013, together with its partners, for the Carlsbad Project.

In 2013, IDE completed the Sorek plant (624,000 m3/day), as well as China’s largest desalination plant at the Tianjin SDIC power station (200,000 m3/day) and a 60,000 m3/day facility at the Vasilikos power plant in Cyprus. Another milestone in the industry was beginning construction of the Carlsbad Project in California (204,412 m3/day), the largest seawater desalination plant in the western hemisphere for which IDE was selected to design, operate and maintain the plant for 30 years. Reliance Industries Ltd. also chose IDE’s SWRO solution to expand India’s largest desalination plant, and Mulpha Australia selected the IDE PROGREEN™ chemical-free, modular RO ‘plant in a box’ to provide high-quality clean water to its Hayman Island resort.

Additionally, IDE signed a strategic technology partnership with Beijing Enterprises Water Group, as well as formed a research partnership with Clean Harbors to increase the reliability of Mechanical Vapor Compression (MVC) evaporators to treat oil sands produced water in Canada.

Global Water Intelligence (GWI) cited that, “IDE continues to innovate in order to meet the demands of its clients,” and that the company’s initiatives “will ensure that IDE remains at the cutting edge of the desalination industry for at least another four decades.”

Completed ahead of schedule, within budget and to spec, the Sorek plant provides clean water for over 1.5 million people, comprising 20 percent of Israel’s municipal water demand. GWI cited that, “in a revolutionary departure from other large-scale SWRO facilities, the Sorek plant employs 16-inch membranes in a vertical arrangement. This innovation reduces the number of elements, pressure vessels and piping headers required [and] allows fast installation and increased accessibility.” Also, “smart design and construction within the boundaries of a uniquely challenging site footprint has enabled the plant to be environmentally sensitive, despite its gargantuan size, with no shoreline impacts due to underground pipe-jacking technique.”

IDE will attend the Global Water Awards ceremony at the Global Water Summit, which will take place on April 7-8 in Paris, France. If you currently subscribe to GWI or Water Desalination Report (WDR), or are a member of the IDA, we encourage you to vote for IDE.
