Logan Industries Secures 10-Year Condition-Based Monitoring Contract For Major Drilling Contractor's Wireline Tensioners

Logan Industries (Logan), a hydraulic repair, manufacturing and rental company, has signed a 10-year contract to provide a condition-based monitoring (CBM) program for wireline tensioners on behalf of Diamond Offshore, a major drilling contractor with global operations.

In this contract, Logan will provide fast turn-around upgrade and repairs to a fleet of wireline tensioners onboard five (5) active drilling and completion vessels which have been in use for more than five years. Traditionally, wireline tensioner equipment units are sent for repair only when they begin to deteriorate. Logan’s CBM program provides more proactive monitoring of the health of each unit, helping to predict and mitigate failures before they undergo the upgrade/overhaul process. Logan will be upgrading and overhauling each unit as offline availability windows open up. By using offshore/real-time monitoring and logging the health of each unit, Logan will perform triage on the equipment to prioritize those that should be upgraded or overhauled first and in subsequent order.

Dean Carey, technical director, Logan Industries, said, “When a unit is tagged for upgrade, we will perform a Logan proprietary and comprehensive overhaul with new parts, coatings, seals, and repair all required components. Our goal is to bring equipment to ‘better than new’ condition by mitigating corrosion problems commonly seen in the environment they operate in. Furthermore, we are able to do this in record time because of the rolling stock of ready spares we will keep on hand in our Hempstead facility, and the exclusive supplier agreements we have put into place to support this work. We truly believe this is going to be viewed as the industry standard moving forward in this decade and we are pleased to be able to set the bar for it.”

By providing engineering and offshore technician support, engineered improvement packages and continual monitoring of our customers’ wireline tensioners Logan will ensure they are performing at maximum efficiency and will work to minimize the total cost of ownership for our customer over the long term.
