When out shopping or receiving a parcel delivery to our doorstep, not many of us pay much thought to how the goods we purchase got there. For the majority of goods, the answer is most likely to be by ship. Carrying around 90% of all world trade, from food and manufactured goods through to oil and gas, ships represent the workhorses of the global economy, racking up thousands of nautical miles every year.
