Veolia Supplies Treatment Technologies And Expertise To Manage Sludge From Oil & Gas Facilities In Kuwait

Veolia Water Technologies, through its subsidiary VWS Oil & Gas, has been awarded a 20 million USD (approximately 18 million EUR) contract in Kuwait for the engineering, supply and commissioning of a complete incineration unit to handle oily and biological sludge.

Veolia is supplying the sludge treatment technologies to two oil refineries as part of a major project that covers a broad revamping of Kuwait National Petroleum Company facilities. Veolia is providing its expertise to the joint venture that manages the project and was set up between Fluor, Daewoo and Hyundai.

The technologies to be supplied and commissioned by Veolia include:

  • Veolia’s own Pyrofluid™ thermal treatment solution with a capacity of 5.2 tons of oily and biological
  • sludge per hour;
  • A steam-producing waste-heat boiler and two heat exchangers;
  • Dry fume treatment technologies;
  • A system to handle and store sludge with two 2,340 m3 silos;
  • Storage and dosing reagents.

In addition, Veolia will purchase and manufacture all the required equipment, instrumentation, piping and structures, sourcing them through its own network of subcontractors based in Europe and the Middle East.

The project should be delivered in the next 16 months.
