Founded in 1986 by Harold Schofield, Atlantek Incorporated began as a contract research and development firm specializing in electronic printing. Since then, this native Rhode Island corporation has gained international recognition for its core image printing technology. More recently Atlantek has enjoyed rapid growth as a manufacturer and supplier of its own proprietary products, while maintaining its traditional focus and commitment to its creative product development and product engineering.

In addition to its pioneering efforts in thermal transfer printing on plastic cards, Atlantek has an impressive record of first time accomplishments. These include: development of the first 24 inch thermal plotter ( a product which was introduced to the market by DuPont), the first medical recorder (designed as a plug-in module for the Hewlett-Packard Company) and the first high speed, continuous tone direct thermal and color thermal transfer well log recorders which the company supplies to Western Atlas International.

Atlantek's latest product development efforts are focused on advancements in photo identification printing. Teamed with Polaroid, 3M, and other leading systems and media suppliers, a family of advanced card printing equipment using a diverse array of card fabrication methodologies is unfolding. Atlantek's photo ID products offer complete card issuance solutions. Following a customer oriented philosophy which recognizes card features, the company provides a card fabrication technique to fit each application.

In addition to its hardware and media products, Atlantek offers powerful universal drivers for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 based application software.

Atlantek offers its products through OEM partnerships as well as through a growing group of dealers, VARs and system integrators. Atlantek addresses the growing market for digital photo identification products based on its unique depth of expertise in small format color printing on special media.
