Varco's Automated Iron Roughnecks make tripping pipe easier, safer and more reliable than ever. At the touch of a button, the unit automatically moves along its tracks to the tool joint, spins in and makes-up, or breaks-out and spins out the connection, then moves back to its home position. The Automated Roughnecks expanded capabilities allow the operator to customize the tool's vertical and horizontal travel to avoid obstructions, to start and stop at predetermined positions and to preset the torque wrench carriage height. Varco Automated Roughnecks increase crew safety, save time, protect pipe threads and maintain consistent make-up torque.
