At Control Microsystems, innovative and creative ideas continue to be our hallmark, and this is evident again with the release of ClearSCADA 2007 Edition. By broadening the product's already comprehensive toolset with powerful new features like RealFLO Electronic Flow Measurement support, IEC60870-5-101 & -104 protocols, advanced SVG graphic import and international language localization, ClearSCADA makes it that much easier for the SCADA system developer and user alike to bring control concepts to life.

ClearSCADA 2007 Edition also provides a number of performance enhancements for existing features, including Context-Sensitive Help (F1), X-Y Plots, improved query processing, alarm handling, trending and security.

Enhancements and new features have been made in the following areas:

  • Graphics
Graphics performance has been improved for embedded mimics and web clients. Graphic images can now be imported from the SVG file format commonly used by external tools such as Adobe Illustrator. A new X-Y plot display object allows two historic points to be plotted against each other rather than against time.

  • Templates
Templates are more powerful than ever now that instances can contain additional objects not in the master template. In the example below, objects bound to the template are shown with a brown arrow. Oven A has the additional point object called "Tripped".

  • Scheduler
An improved Scheduler is integrated with a calendar interface for day and weekly schedules, with an optional calendar to define special day schedules, and a new simple repeating schedule.

  • RealFLO EFM Driver
An Integrated RealFLO driver just made EFM management a whole lot easier. This is an extension to the SCADAPack Modbus driver for RealFLO gas flow computer-equipped SCADAPack controllers. A new flow run object supports scheduled collection and demand polling of flow computer records: current readings, historical data (hourly, daily, event, alarm) and configuration data.

Flow run data can be mapped to analog historical points in the ClearSCADA historical database. The flow run object supports time synchronization, an orifice plate change method, and a gas analysis change method.

  • More Drivers: IEC-60870-5-101 & 104, Siemens S7, ICMP, PortServer
ClearSCADA includes a new protocol driver which is commonly used in the European power market, based on the IEC 60870 standard. IEC-60870-5-101 is the serial protocol and IEC-60870-5-104 is the Ethernet version; both are master protocols.

A new driver for Siemens S7 Ethernet and serial communications has been added to support the S7 range of PLCs: S7-200, S7-300 and S7-400.

An ICMP driver allows target devices to be pinged and their availability mapped to a digital point.

PortServer now permits multiple protocols to share the same physical communications channel: e.g. Modbus and DNP3, or Modbus and IEC-60870.

  • Security
New security features have been added based on recommendations of FDA 21 CFR Part 11. For example, the security level can be set in one place to: none, weak, medium, strong or to custom where parameters are tuned individually.

  • Alarm Management
New alarm handling features include "Area of Interest" filtering and a "No Change" alarm to detect when active points flat-line. The system administrator can now pre-configure alarm acknowledge comments so that operators can choose a pre-defined comment, or enter free format text when acknowledging alarms.

In addition to the existing automatic options for alarm redirection (such as redirection to an email, pager, mobile telephone message or some other action), new manual alarm redirection allows users to redirect alarms on demand from the alarm list and alarm banner.

  • Context Sensitive Help
All ClearSCADA forms now have context sensitive help available simply by pressing F1. This navigates directly to the relevant section of the online help for the specific field highlighted at the time. Context sensitive help now provides simple access to help through all stages of development. New sections have also been added to the on-line help for the automation interface and the SQL command set supported.

  • Localization
To support our growing global presence several languages are now offered by ClearSCADA. This is done via localization kits which translate the resource strings used in the product. When you configure the security in ClearSCADA, you create a user account and can specify the ‘locale' for that user. The locale selection determines which resource kit will be used for that logged on user. The following languages are now supported: English (US), English (UK & Canada), English (Australia), Spanish, Russian, Finnish, Dutch and Norwegian.
