Dow Introduces UCARSOL™ GT 10 Antifoam For Gas Treating Applications

MIDLAND, Mich. – (April 22, 2004) – The Dow Chemical Company today announced the introduction of UCARSOL™ GT 10 Antifoam, the newest in the company's series of high-performance specialty antifoam products. UCARSOL GT 10 is designed to improve foam control in a variety of gas treating applications."Although antifoams are used in a variety of industries, many formulations are not suitable for gas treating and can actually aggravate the situation," says David Burns, business manager for Dow Gas Treating Products & Services. "We developed this product in response to a proven market need for a robust product specifically designed with gas treating in mind ."UCARSOL GT 10 blends silicone produced by Dow Corning Corporation and polyglycol technologies from Dow into one product that works in a variety of systems – more efficiently than individual silicon- or polyglycol-based products."During development, we discovered there was a synergistic effect when blending a high-performance, third-generation, silicone-based defoamer with one of Dow's best performing polyglycol-based products," says Tim Hueston, senior oil and gas applications specialist for Dow Corning.

Foaming in gas treating systems is a common problem and is usually the result of improper operating conditions or contaminants entering or forming in the system. The best cure is to find the cause and eliminate it. However, antifoams can be an effective interim, or even long-term, cure, if elimination of the cause is not possible.UCARSOL GT 10 Antifoam is particularly useful in controlling foam conditions caused by contamination from liquid hydrocarbons, particulates or surfactants in general. Both refinery and natural gas processing facilities often encounter these types of contamination and should consider the use of UCARSOL GT 10 Antifoam when foaming is encountered in physical solvent applications, amine treating units or glycol dehydration systems.A versatile foam control agent, UCARSOL GT 10 antifoam provides these important advantages:

  • Excellent antifoam durability
  • Effective for a broad spectrum of contaminants
  • Reduced addition levels for control of severe foaming situations
  • Improved product quality and stability for superior foam control
  • Quick foam knockdown and rapid restoration of system performance
  • Ease of use; easy to disperse with good dilution stability
  • Improved overall system performance in terms of gas liquid separation and reduced solvent loss
