Dresser-Rand Investing In Center Of Excellence For F-Class Rotor Repairs

Dresser-Rand, a global supplier of rotating equipment solutions to the oil, gas, petrochemical, power and process industries, is expanding its Turbine Technology Services facility in Houston, Texas to include a center of excellence for F-class rotor repair.

Dresser-Rand Turbine Technology Services currently has 88,000 square feet (8,175 square meters) under roof.

"In order to successfully repair the high-tech designs of F-class rotors, a fully equipped world-class facility complete with engineering capability and top technology are all required," said Dan Levin, general manager of Dresser-Rand Strategic Business Units for Gimpel valves, Control Systems and Turbine Technology Services. "Our expanded repair facility in Houston has the capabilities needed to help clients better manage their rotors to meet or exceed the original design lives of those components."

The facility also provides high-quality repairs on mature and F-Class frame industrial gas and steam turbines and includes complete in-house coating capability, automated 5-axis laser welding, a metallurgical laboratory, a high capacity vacuum and conventional heat treating facility, and a machine and weld shop.

The facility is ISO 9001:2008 certified, providing clients with assurance that their utility gas and steam turbine repairs will be performed in compliance with the highest level of international quality control standards.

The new F-class rotor shop will add an additional 24,000 square feet (2229 square meters) with a 75-ton crane and 50 feet under hook, adequate for F-class rotors up to Frame 9. The newly expanded area will allow Dresser-Rand to provide service for all brands of industrial gas and steam turbine rotors, including blade replacement, un-stacking and re-stacking, balancing, and nondestructive testing.

"Combined with our world-class component repair and expert engineering staff, the addition of F-class rotor repair provides an important service alternative for North American operators," Levin said.

In addition to the Houston facility, Dresser-Rand is globally expanding its industrial gas and steam turbine repair capability. Locations in South America, Europe and Asia are currently being equipped with additional capacity, and personnel are being trained to provide regional repair solutions for clients around the world.
