ECLIPSE 2000A reservoir simulation suite released

GeoQuest has released its ECLIPSE* 2000A reservoir simulation software suite, said to include more than 120 new features and reduce simulation study time. "The new ECLIPSE release provides our customers with the most advanced and comprehensive reservoir simulation suite of applications in the industry," said Colin Hulme, vice president and general manager of Reservoir Software Products for GeoQuest. "These latest enhancements boost the productivity of asset teams, enabling faster and better reservoir management decisions."

Migration from the blackoil simulator to the more complex compositional simulator is simplified and easier with the improved compatibility and upgradeability between the simulators. These enhancements, which enable faster simulation turnaround time, include user documentation unification, keywords and parallel processing options compatibility.

The compositional simulator has a new-generation, faster linear solver specifically tuned for complex and difficult local grid refinement cases and a multipoint flux approximation for tensor permeabilities. Also, users can build, run and visualize FrontSim streamline simulation software cases from within the ECLIPSE Office simulation management software environment.

"ECLIPSE 2000A offers significant advances in both ease-of-use and modeling capabilities, demonstrating our continuing commitment to making reservoir simulation a key element of field development," said Dr. Ian M. Cheshire, Schlumberger Fellow.

The preprocessor and postprocessor applications in the software suite have a wide range of new features, such as performance and usability improvements, to reduce the learning curve in performing everyday simulation tasks. Some of these are more gradients and parameters in SimOpt model calibration software and expanded support for graphics run files and order-of-magnitude speed gains for various file loading operations in ECLIPSE Office integrated simulation management software. Additionally, well tests of any complexity now can be analyzed by combining Weltest 200 analytical and numerical well test software with either the ECLIPSE blackoil or compositional simulators with options.
