Elnusa Strengthens National Energy Security Through Deepwater Seismic Technology In The Offshore 3D Kandawulo Project
PT Elnusa Tbk an integrated energy services company under Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding, once again demonstrates its technological and operational capabilities through its strategic involvement in the Offshore 3D Kandawulo Seismic Project in the Makassar Strait. This project represents a significant contribution to supporting the national energy security agenda by providing high-quality subsurface data to accelerate the identification of new oil and gas reserves.
Covering a survey area of approximately 2,500 square kilometers with water depths ranging from 900 to 2,000 meters, the Kandawulo Project is one of Indonesia’s high-complexity deepwater seismic surveys. The successful execution of this project further underscores Elnusa’s capability in delivering advanced exploration services in frontier areas targeted for future energy development.
n this project, Elnusa implemented broadband seismic data acquisition technology using the Marine Streamer method, enabling higherresolution subsurface imaging with a broader frequency range. This technology is supported by integrated navigation, positioning, and quality control systems, allowing real-time data quality monitoring to enhance both accuracy and operational efficiency.
The application of a slanted tow configuration enables improved signal-to-noise ratio, resulting in clearer and more accurate subsurface geological imaging. This capability plays a crucial role in reducing exploration uncertainty and increasing confidence in oil and gas investment decision-making.
Elnusa’s Director of Operations, Andri Haribowo, stated that the project reflects Elnusa’s transformation into a technology-driven energy services company that continues to strengthen its role in supporting national energy security.
“Through the utilization of broadband seismic technology and increasingly robust offshore operational capabilities, Elnusa not only delivers high-quality data to its clients but also contributes to unlocking new oil and gas reserve opportunities needed to sustain Indonesia’s energy supply. The Kandawulo Project demonstrates how technology and innovation serve as key enablers in supporting national oil and gas production targets,” said Andri.
The project execution was carried out in collaboration with PT COSL Indo as the provider of seismic vessels and equipment. In this partnership, Elnusa was responsible for permit management, area preparation, and operational support for data acquisition, thereby delivering an integrated and efficient solution to the client.
As a national energy services company, Elnusa remains committed to executing every project with the principles of on quality, on time, and on budget, while upholding the highest standards of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE). The successful completion of the Kandawulo Project will further strengthen Elnusa’s position as a strategic partner to the national energy industry in delivering technology-based exploration solutions. Through mastery of seismic technology, strengthening national competencies, and excellence in operational execution, Elnusa continues to support efforts to increase national oil and gas reserves and production as a foundation for Indonesia’s energy security amid increasingly complex global energy dynamics.
