European Commissioner For Energy Confirmed As Keynote Speaker At The EAGC Opening Session
Günther H. Oettinger, European Commissioner for Energy, is confirmed as the keynote speaker in the opening session at the EAGC, 9-10 November 2010, in Berlin.
Günther H. Oettinger will present to delegates the pertinent question; "Is our energy future too important to leave to market forces?" James Ball, President Director of Gas Strategies and session chair, will invite fellow panelists Beate Raabe Director of EU Affairs at the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers, and Claire Spottiswoode, Chairman of Gas Strategies and former UK Gas Regulator, to explore the role that regulation and political pressure could have on the future of the European gas industry.
Amongst other topics, discussion will centre on EU percentage targets on emission reduction, more efficient energy use, more renewably-sourced power, and whether gas is more than just a ‘bridge' fuel to a low-carbon economy or whether it is a ‘destination' fuel that has a highly significant future role within the industry.
Day two begins with a top-level leadership panel, uniting four significant industry figureheads, revealing what it will take to develop and grow the gas industry in a time of energy security uncertainly as the EU drives towards lower carbon emissions.
The EAGC, hosted by RWE Supply & Trading and now celebrating its 25th year anniversary, is one of Europe's longest running annual gas conferences. One popular aspect of the event is the ‘Champagne Roundtable' hour, where three prominent experts informally discuss key issues facing the European gas industry. Professor Jonathan Stern, Director of Gas Research, Oxford Energy Institute, will utilise his expertise on Russian gas to explore the latest developments of supply and trade. Dr. Jennifer Coolidge, Founder & Executive Director, CMX Caspian & Gulf, will deliver the latest findings from the latest Iraqi gas tenders, whilst Dr. Anouk Honoré, Senior Research Fellow, Oxford Energy Institute, will host a European roundtable to discus the trends and expectations for European gas supply and demand.
Year-on-year, the EAGC brings together the gas industry's business leaders, policymakers, strategists and traders to discuss, debate and formulate solutions to the key issues affecting today's commercial European gas market.
"The global economic downturn of the last two years together with the energy price volatility has proved trying for producers, traders and consumers alike. Additionally, the ‘politicisation' of gas supplies keeps the issue of energy security permanently at the forefront of political and business agendas," said Stefan Judisch, CEO of RWE Supply & Trading and host of the EAGC 2010.
The EAGC 2010, sponsored by E.ON Ruhrgas, Gazprom Marketing & Trading, eni, Gas Strategies, Gasunie, Energy Intelligence and PricewaterhouseCoopers, will feature a number of first-rate speakers representing the most important gas players in the market.
