Fine Cesium Chemicals

Source: Cabot Specialty Fluids (CSF)
CSF produces, tolls and markets the following products into the segmented fine chemicals industry: Cesium sulfate, Cesium hydroxide, Cesium carbonate, Cesium nitrate and other minor cesium chemicals.
Conventional fine cesium chemicals are marketed in several industries, such as:
  • Chemical Catalysis;
  • Organic Synthesis;
  • Scintillation businesses;
  • Biomedical research;
  • Defense departments.
These industries have moved to fine cesium based chemicals to improve yield; minimize waste, improve functionality, and to provide more environmentally friendly products.

CSF produces, tolls and markets the following products into the segmented fine chemicals industry: Cesium sulfate, Cesium hydroxide, Cesium carbonate, Cesium nitrate and other minor cesium chemicals. Fine cesium chemicals for chemical production dominate the market requiring 80% of product volume. Fine cesium chemicals are primarily used for catalysis and as a strong base in chemical production. Scintillation and flare usage is generally for government project-related applications. Fine cesium chemicals used in biomedical research is for DNA/RNA separation.

Fine cesium chemicals are very reactive alkali metals with the largest atomic radius. Excluding francium, cesium has the lowest boiling and melting points, the highest vapor pressure, the highest density, and the lowest ionization potential of the alkali metals. Cesium Chemicals, as solids, are the most reactive alkali metal toward oxygen and halogens. They are the strongest bases known. They are the least reactive alkali metal toward nitrogen, carbon and hydrogen. Cesium chemicals are also generally more soluble than corresponding sodium and potassium salts, and yield greater efficiency, less waste, which makes them more environmentally attractive.
