First Commercial Coil Tubing Deployed DeepWave Stimulation Completed
Edmonton - Wavefront Energy and Environmental Services Inc., a provider of innovative technologies for increased oil production and groundwater remediation, announced that Halliburton has completed its first commercial DeepWave(SM) application. Specifically, a coiled tubing tool deployed as a main component of the DeepWave(SM) Stimulation Service, was utilized for the placement of various stimulation chemicals with an Oklahoma oil producer. Halliburton reports that the coil tubing tool developed through a Collaboration Agreement between the two companies performed to specifications.
What is the scope of the problem DeepWave(SM) addresses? Approximately 70% of the world's oil comes from mature fields whose oil reserves are under exploited. In the United States 400,000 wells produce, on average, just 2.2 barrels a day. Using new, enhanced recovery techniques, the output of some low-flow wells can be increased dramatically. It's even possible to revive old wells that aren't producing a drop.(1) In addition, there are approximately 167,000 active water injection wells in the United States(2). The combined total of the producing and injection wells mentioned above represent a small fraction of the total market worldwide and application types available for DeepWave(SM). Wavefront anticipates significant growth for DeepWave(SM) as the technology is at the forefront of unlocking under exploited reserves.
Wavefront President and CEO Brett Davidson stated, "We are pleased that Halliburton is now establishing a market presence for the DeepWave(SM) Stimulation Service in the well intervention market. In previous releases dated January 27, 2005 and March 21, 2005 respectively, we disclosed Halliburton's and Wavefront's progress in developing applicable coil tubing tools. The successful deployment of this tool in Oklahoma is the culmination of those efforts. Wavefront and Halliburton will be meeting in the coming days to continue the development of DeepWave(SM) tools for waterflood and well intervention applications. Wavefront management is very confident that the strong commitment Halliburton continues to place on DeepWave(SM) reaffirms the building of a long and strategic relationship with them."
