Four New Gas Wells Boost Production To 120 MMcf Of Gas/Day
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has successfully added four new wells to the gas production map, in the West Burullus field in the Mediterranean Sea in partnership with Cairn Energy, and in the Khalda fields in the Western Desert in partnership with Apache Corporation, with a total estimated production of approximately 120 million cubic feet of gas per day.
In this context, the new well in the West Burullus offshore field, operated by PetroWeb (a subsidiary of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company "EGAS"), comes just days after the field's third well was brought online. Test results from the fourth well showed a production rate of approximately 50 million cubic feet of gas per day, and work is underway to connect it to production through the Burullus Gas Company's facilities, which will contribute to raising the field's total production to more than 100 million cubic feet of gas per day.
In light of these positive results, work is underway to update the drilling plan to include drilling a fifth well on the "Web" platform. In the Western Desert, Khalda Petroleum Company achieved positive results by drilling three new wells as part of Apache's investment plan, with a total estimated production of approximately 70 million cubic feet of gas per day and 700 barrels of condensate.
These results are a direct result of the investment incentives approved by the Ministry, which encouraged Apache to expand its exploration and production activities in the natural gas sector.
Drilling operations included the successful exploration well SHAI-2X in the Western Desert, where initial tests showed a production rate of 30 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Another exploration well, Mahroussa-N01X, was drilled in the East Abu Gharadiq area, and initial tests showed an estimated production rate of approximately 25 million cubic feet of gas per day and 700 barrels of condensate.
Work is underway to connect these two wells to production sequentially during April, utilizing existing infrastructure.
The third well, Salam-88ST, has already been brought online, with an estimated production rate of approximately 15 million cubic feet of gas per day.
