Geopressure Systems
On a typical Geopressure Systems project, staff members with backgrounds in engineering and geology spend time working with the customer to collect data and review the drilling, geological and pore pressure plans for the well. A pore pressure prediction is then generated for the proposed well using DrillWorks/PREDICT with any available combination of seismic and offset well data. Alternatively a forecast provided by the customer can be input into the system. Upon arrival at the wellsite, the geopressure expert installs a computer system with the PREDICT software, loads all the relevant prognosis and offset data, and then connects the system to the MWD/LWD contractor supplying data in the WITS format, using a simple RS232 connection. While drilling is underway, a foot by foot computation of pore pressures and fracture pressures is generated and continuously compared with the forecast. Graphic reports in color of the pressure analysis results are available on demand for review by personnel at the wellsite and for transmission to regional or central offices.
All relevant data are used for geopressure analysis at the wellsite, from surface seismic to drilling parameters and gas data to MWD/LWD data. Where data is not available in the WITS format, it can be loaded into the system by simple diskette transfer. With DrillWorks/PREDICT, a variety of different geopressure methods and models are available so that the most appropriate ones in a given area can be used with whatever data is available that provides the best results. With the User Defined Method and User Defined Program functions of PREDICT, new models and methods can rapidly be added to the system as can special methods and models that are proprietary to a particular operator. When proprietary models are added to the system, it is strictly on a confidential, non-disclosure basis and those models are used only on wells for that operator.
