Honeywell Analytics Completes Offshore Gas Detection Contract In Middle East

Honeywell Analytics announced the successful replacement of 1700 points of gas detection for PS/2 and PS/3 offshore platforms belonging to a major oil and gas producer in the Middle East.

More than 620 Series 2000 H2S transmitters and sensors and more than 830 Sieger Apex detectors were installed on platforms in the Persian Gulf to facilitate the detection of methane and hydrogen sulfide.

The project was completed in seven months – some five months ahead of schedule due to the full commitment of the installation teams and favourable weather conditions that allowed for the change-out of the old units at the bottom of the offshore rigs.

The Apex gas detector, part of Honeywell Analytics' range of Sieger fixed gas detectors, was selected as the ideal choice for installation on the rigs as Apex's advanced and innovative sensing technology, housed in a robust, stainless steel enclosure, makes it particularly suitable for use on offshore platforms.

Offering a high specification of standard features including simple 4-button operation, 3 fully configurable relay outputs and an isolated 4-20mA signal, Apex is able to detect more than 40 toxic gases and a wide range of flammable gases using easy-to-replace sensor cartridges. Apex also benefits from a selection of accessories including flow housings, duct mounting adaptors, weather protection assemblies and collecting cones to make it a cost effective gas detection solution for a wider range of applications.

The refit work, testing and calibration was carried out by system integrators Megatech of Dubai.

"The professional and effective manner in which this very large change-out was achieved reflects both our commitment to best service and our ability to provide the most reliable, best quality fixed gas detection for the oil and gas industry" said Chris Cottrell, vice-president sales and marketing for Honeywell Analytics.
