IHS Energy Group & PetroWEB alliance for E&P data access

Information providor IHS Energy Group has signed an agreement forming a strategic agreement with data-management provider PetroWEB. The companies plan to offer a seamless Internet solution to the petroleum industry that includes both application service provider (ASP) and data service provider (DSP) components. (Application service providers lease software and provide other data management services online, which enables customers to benefit from the technology while avoiding the cost and inconvenience of ownership and maintenance. A data service provider updates and maintains data for a company, which allows the company to eliminate the associated expenses of managing these functions in-house.)

IHS Energy Group will provide the databases, data hosting center, and data management systems, which are built using comprehensive, Oracle-based data models (PIDM and IRIS21) designed for the oil and gas industry. PetroWEB will offer its Internet-browser-based map interface, which provides real-time data access to third-party commercial and internal corporate data. Through this interface, oil and gas companies will be able to view, purchase, and download data from IHS Energy Group in a secure environment, which can then be combined with their own internal databases using their corporate Intranet.

"We've formed this relationship with petroWEB so we can continue to make it increasingly easier for our customers to access and use our data along with their own data," said Mike McCrory, executive vice president and chief operating officer of IHS Energy Group. "The strength of the petroWEB service is its capability to link our commercial data with the customer's own proprietary data in a single, map-based interface."
