Industrial Refrigeration

Startec began with servicing and constructing industrial refrigeration systems in 1976 and it remains a cornerstone of our business. The projects we are involved with range from small compressor packages for small cold storage facilities to multi-million dollar storage and freezer facilities for food production plants utilizing multiple large horsepower rotary screw compressors.

We monitor new developments in the technology and can provide the latest in computer control systems which, when coupled with our design practices, ensure the most energy efficient and cost effective solution for our customer. The control systems are designed and serviced by in-house Startec staff.

We provide the following services, either as distinct components or as part of the complete package, providing the customer with the ability to select the product and service suited to their needs.

Planning – How many tons? A question we get from every frozen food producer and handler. We can help solve your questions regarding capacity and cost prior to entering the detailed design phase of the project. This prevents a lot of costly wheel spinning.

Design & Engineering – Detailed mechanical and process design are provided by our staff of professional engineers, technologists and draftsmen.

Construction – All construction projects are staffed with experienced journeyman tradesmen with good communication between the job site, the design staff and the customer.

Maintenance – We provide customer specific comprehensive maintenance programs designed to facilitate cost efficient continuous operation. We provide 24-hour service, 7 days a week, with rapid response to emergency situations. We carry a full inventory of parts and specialty lubricants, which allows us to meet a greater range of customer needs.

Packaged Ammonia Screw Compressors

Startec fabricates a line of ammonia refrigeration screw compressors ranging in size from 50 to 2000 hp. These units are custom designed and fabricated in our Calgary plant and meet all Canadian pressure vessel, piping and electrical requirements. They feature Allen-Bradley PLC-based control systems that can be programmed and maintained by the owners own staff or controls personnel - you are not 'locked-in' to a particular compressor manufacturer for service and upgrades.
