Joint Statement From U.S. Trade Groups On ISO-GHGP Partnership

The American Petroleum Institute, American Chemistry Council, National Association of Manufacturers and U.S. Chamber of Commerce today issued the following joint statement regarding the partnership between the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) to develop global carbon accounting standards.

“ISO’s trusted standards development process upholds key principles of openness, transparency, and full inclusion of all critical stakeholders. We call on ISO and GHGP to uphold these same principles for all work under the ISO-GHG Protocol Partnership agreement. We are eager to put our collective expertise to work helping advance a broadly applicable GHG accounting approach that accommodates all of industry and its products, enables transparency, and evolves to incorporate technical advancements while resolving technical limitations that can compromise accuracy and comparability. Deviating from the rigor of the ISO process or bypassing transparent collaboration at any point in the partnership risks slowing down, rather than advancing, real progress.”
