M. B. (Skip) Mick, P.E. joins Paragon Engineering Services, Inc as both Project Director and Director of Deepwater Development


M. B. (Skip) Mick, P.E., has joined Paragon Engineering Services, Inc. (Houston, TX) as project director, responsible for large international and domestic projects, as well as consortia, joint ventures and alliances. Heightening Paragon's leadership role in deepwater activities, Mick also is serving in a newly created position as director of deepwater development.

A former employee of Marathon Oil Company, Mick brings 30 years of upstream oil and gas experience in engineering and project management, with valuable insight for operator requirements for on time, within budget project completions. Mick's major project experience includes work in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico and the UK sector of the North Sea. Areas of emphasis include life-cycle analysis and health, environment and safety (HES), as well as downstream supply and transportation.

Prior to joining Paragon, Mick served as Marathon's manager of deepwater development worldwide. Mick and his team were accountable for technology development and application, Gulf of Mexico and international lease bid support, prospect pre-development/front-end activity and commercialization and development activities following discovery.

Key projects included the Camden Hills gas discovery in 7,200 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico; Corrib development offshore Ireland's West Coast; and support for areas offshore Nova Scotia and offshore West Africa.

In a previous position, Mick served as corporate manager of Marathon's health, environment and safety, responsible for policy development, HES analysis, operations support and auditing. Mick also served as manager of Marathon's Brae projects in the UK sector of the North Sea, including the $1.4 billion East Brae development and the SAGE gas pipeline system.

Mick holds a bachelor's of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Dayton in Ohio; a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Florida at Gainesville; and a master's degree in business administration from Texas A&I (Texas A&M) at Kingsville. In 1986, Mick completed the Harvard Business School program for management development.

A registered professional engineer in the State of Ohio, Mick is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Paragon Engineering Services, Inc. provides project management, front-end engineering, detailed design, procurement, construction management, inspection and training services to the oil and gas and pipeline industries.
