McDermott Completes Loadout of Module Support Frames for Girassol FPSO Project

"We fabricated ten modules at the McDermott yard, with an overall weight of 4,984 tons," said Paul Charlesworth, Girassol's project director. "We also undertook the loadout, seafastenings, and transportation for the modules."

The first six modules, part of the pre-fabrication of the topsides for the main Girassol FPSO project, were lifted and loaded onto a transport vessel by McDermott's derrick barge, DB-27. A derrick crane with a 2,400-ton lift capacity was used in the loadout operation. The seafastenings were completed by the McDermott team for inspection and certification.
"The loadout, seafastenings, and sailout were all performed safely and on schedule," said Charlesworth. "We attribute the smooth running of this project to the professionalism and team work between the McDermott Middle East project team and the MPG on-site team."

MPG released the mechanical completion certificates for the six modules confirming that the work was performed in compliance with the subcontract agreement and project specifications. The project was on a fast track schedule, and both MPG and Elf Exploration Angola, operator of the Girassol Field, expressed satisfaction with the high quality and performance McDermott requires at Jebel Ali. The remaining four modules will be loaded out in August on board another transport vessel.
J. Ray McDermott's Middle East operation has fabricated and installed more than 620 structures and 2,600 miles of pipelines in the Arabian Gulf and India since 1960. Today, McDermott's Middle East area headquarters, fabrication yard, and marine base occupies 60 hectares in the Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai. The Derrick Barge 27 is capable of performing lifts of up to 2,400 tons and laying pipe of 72-inch diameter.
