Organic Surfectant/Carrier Fluid Solvent
The blend of solvents has the ability to solvate the organic surfactants and carrier fluid that holds the pipe dope together, releasing the oil wet solid fillers. The product works effectively on a wide range of pipe dopes. It exhibits a flash point greater than 142°F and is designed to compete with the flammable d-Limonene based materials for removal of pipe dope. The non-flammable rating for the product provides an extra margin of safety, especially in offshore applications.
The solvent is designed to be environmentally acceptable. It contains no aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons and is readily biodegradable. It is just as effective when pumped with 40 to 60 percent seawater in turbulent flow, as opposed to being pumped as a concentrated (neat) chemical, for the removal of pipe dope. This dilution with seawater extends the contact time of the solvent, permitting increased pump rates, with reduced rig time and operating costs. Pipe dope removal compounds normally require a contact time of eight to ten minutes for pipe dope removal. A typical application would use five drums of product pumped at three barrels per minute, and then reversed out at the same rate.
