Partners Discover Oil in Northwest Natuna Block I

The Ande Ande Lumut-1 exploration well reached a total depth of 4,186 ft in mid-April. It logged oil pay and recovered oil samples from four sands of the Gabus Formation, one of the main producing formations in the basin. A test conducted through perforations between 3,798 and 3,840 ft encountered sand influx and subsequent water channeling and was terminated without a sustained oil flow. Ande Ande Lumut-1 is the first well drilled in the Northwest Natuna Block I operated by Premier Oil plc.

"The discovery of oil at Ande Ande Lumut-1 clearly extends the northern limits of oil prospectivity in the West Natuna Basin and confirms the potential of the Northwest Natuna Block I. The exploration team is extremely excited about this well and anticipates appraisal drilling in the near future," said Cliff Zeliff, vice president, Exploration of Gulf Indonesia. "This well is the first of seven big-hit oil exploration prospects that are on our drilling schedule from April 2000 to March 2001."
Gulf Indonesia Resources Limited holds a 30% working interest in the Northwest Natuna Block I PSC. Partners are Premier Oil plc with 50% (operator), and Dana Petroleum plc with 20%. Gulf Indonesia Resources Limited, headquartered in Jakarta, is an independent upstream oil and gas company which 72% owned by Gulf Canada Resources Limited.
