A compact engine air intake shutdown device that protects engines from airborne hydrocarbons that present a threat to controlled diesel and gasoline engine operation.
A compact engine air intake shutdown device that protects engines from airborne hydrocarbons that present a threat to controlled diesel and gasoline engine operation. These hydrocarbons may be drawn into the air intake system causing the engine to accelerate out of control with the attendant risk of explosion and fire. Conventional shut-down methods (e.g. shutting off the engine's fuel supply) may be ineffective in preventing engine runaway. The RIGSAVER, a positive, spring operated air shutoff device mounted in the air intake system, will positively block the air-flow and stop the engine in this situation or in the event of mechanical failure. The RIGSAVER can be manually or automatically controlled, responding to a variety of fault or hazard conditions. RIGSAVERS have been used worldwide, providing reliable service on and offshore under the adverse conditions associated with locations in the Canadian Arctic, Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, deserts of Africa, Middle East and the Pacific Rim.
