Schlumberger Releases Log Data Software for Customer Use

Schlumberger Oilfield Services has completed development of Log Data Toolbox*, a suite of PC-based software applications that provides maximum flexibility for wireline and logging-while-drilling data and graphics. These freeware utilities are now available on the Schlumberger Web site or on CD-ROM.

The seven Log Data Toolbox applications greatly simplify manipulation of log data and graphics. Log data files can be viewed, filtered and converted before integration into client interpretation software or data management systems. Data files can be output as DLIS, LIS, LAS, or ASCII formats. An enhanced version of PDSView software allows PDS graphics files to be annotated, viewed, printed and converted to GIF and CGM formats for use in other applications.

Stuart Murchie, vice president Schlumberger Data & Consulting Services, stated, "With the growing volume of electronically delivered data, applications were needed to facilitate immediate customer interaction. The Log Data Toolbox utilities were developed to allow clients to view and manipulate data as it is received. This flexibility will greatly assist in ongoing wellsite activities and simplify next-step decisions."

Kerr-McGee is among the first to use the new Log Data Toolbox freeware. Andy May, chief petrophysicist with Kerr-McGee, said, "I used it extensively to scan and reformat DLIS data from our recent discovery in China, and it worked flawlessly for all our data sets, including DSI Dipole Sonic Imager, CMR Combinable Magnetic Resonance, FMI Fullbore Formation MicroImager and Platform Express data. This program saved me time and frustration. It changes my job from one where data is the problem to one where data is used to solve the problem."
