SmartWell Technology Restores Oil Production

Source: Halliburton Company

An operator in Norway faced unexpected gas breakthrough in a stacked oil play resulting in reduced oil production and loss of recovery. Oil production was limited by gas-handling capability.

In high-permeability reservoirs, where the production potential is large and the tubing frictional pressure drop is high compared to the formation pressure draw-down, attention to the well design stage is crucial in order to obtain the optimum production performance.

Halliburton recommended use of SmartWell® technology to enable remote control of the zones with excessive gas production. Four SmartWell completion systems were installed. One four-zone well utilized a SCRAMS® (Surface Controlled Reservoir Analysis & Management System) HAL36384system in a channel sand deposit. One zone at a time was produced through the test separator.
