StimPlus Services Ensured Long-Lasting Scale Protection

Source: Baker Hughes

Mineral scale inhibition in post-fracturing operations of Bakken Shale wells is of particular concern to several North Dakota oil and gas operators. In particular, subsurface production equipment needs to be protected against the choking effects of calcium carbonate, iron sulfide, and iron carbonate scales. As a key line of defense against scale, chemical inhibitors are often injected with frac fluids to afford protection during flowback. The key issue for operators is maximizing how long the flowback fluids remain treated.

Baker Hughes StimPlus flow assurance services have assisted many operators in numerous fracturing operations in the Bakken play. Through this experience, a suite of products and services has been developed to mitigate the impact that mineral deposits have on production. Of particular benefit is a specially formulated scale inhibitor that was designed to control both calcium carbonate and iron carbonate scales.

Benefits

  • Long-term protection from scale and iron sulfide
  • Enhanced production
  • Lowered maintenance requirements
  • Improved total cost of ownership (TCO)
