Stratos Completes Datacom Acquisition

(Toronto, Ont.) – Stratos Global Corporation is pleased to announce that it has completed the acquisition of the assets of Datacom including US$4.0 million in cash for US$44.25 million. Datacom provides remote voice and data communications to industrial users in the Gulf of Mexico through microwave and satellite technology. Major customers include Texaco, Chevron and Coastel Communications. Datacom also provides Internet access and data solutions via satellite to users in Latin America from its 8 acre operations centre and teleport in Lafayette, La.

Datacom has experienced significant growth over the past year. Revenues and EBITDA for the nine months ended September 30, 2000 have increased by 21% and 50% respectively as compared to the nine months ended September 30, 1999. The combination of Datacom with the previously acquired assets of Shell Offshore Services Company ("SOSCo") will solidify Stratos' leading position in the Oil & Gas communications industry. The company will offer a variety of communications solutions to oil & gas customers operating in the Gulf of Mexico and Latin America including; voice, data, Internet and email access via microwave, VSAT and Inmarsat technologies. Datacom is a very complementary transaction to SOSCo and Stratos expects to generate in excess of US$3.5 million in annual cost savings from the combination of the two companies.

Even using Datacom's 1999 results, the transaction is immediately accretive to Stratos.
