Strengthening National Energy Security, Elnusa Supports Pertamina EP Zone 4 In Increasing Production Through Workover Activities At 51 Wells

Amidst global geopolitical dynamics, PT Elnusa Tbk (ELSA), part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, continues to demonstrate its capacity as an integrated energy service provider to strengthen national energy security. One way to do this is by supporting PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Zone 4's efforts to increase oil production at 51 existing wells through workover activities.

Workover activities, or well workovers, are commonly carried out on existing oil and gas wells to repair, restore, or even enhance oil and gas production performance. During the workover of 51 wells in the Pertamina EP Zone 4 Working Area in South Sumatra, spanning the Prabumulih Field, Limau Field, Pendopo Field, Adera Field, and Ramba Field, Elnusa's Wireline Services (WLS) team provided wireline logging and perforation services.

Elnusa's Director of Operations, Andri Haribowo, explained, "The scope of work involves wireline logging to evaluate reservoir conditions and more accurately identify hydrocarbon potential within the well. Furthermore, Elnusa also evaluates the integrity of the casing and cement in the well through cement evaluation logging to ensure optimal well conditions for production. For the perforation service, we open the production layer by drilling holes in the casing so that hydrocarbons from the reservoir can flow and be produced to the surface," Andri explained.

To support the company's performance and enhance the effectiveness of workover activities, Andri revealed that Elnusa's Wireline Logging Services division now possesses the latest technology, the Saturation Logging Tool (RPM by Elnusa), which can more accurately identify hydrocarbon positions in reservoirs. This technology has been used in the Pertamina EP Zone 7 working areas in West Java and Pertamina EP Zone 11 in East Java.

Thanks to this technology, Elnusa is now able to offer more effective, efficient, and economical services for workover activities. "With our proprietary technology, Elnusa can provide more economical and competitive solutions for our customers. This also supports efforts to optimally increase production in Pertamina EP Zone 4," he explained.

As a result of the workover activities, which were also supported by Elnusa, Pertamina EP Zone 4 successfully increased oil and gas production from aging wells that had declined, or even restored production from suspended and idle wells. Andri also added that operational challenges in the South Sumatra region, with its diverse well characteristics, require accurate and adaptive data interpretation skills.

"Elnusa plays a role in obtaining information and data from old, idle, and suspended wells that still contain oil potential. We then interpret this data accurately and thoroughly to help increase production in the Pertamina EP Zone 4 working area," explained Andri. The workover and well intervention program in Zone 4 throughout 2025 recorded an increase in oil production of 432 barrels per day (BOPD).

Andri emphasized that Elnusa's competence, supported by the latest technology in workover activities, can support the government's target of achieving a production of 1 million barrels of oil per day, thereby achieving national energy security. "We hope to continue contributing by providing the best services with the latest, most effective, and economical technology, in supporting efforts to increase oil and gas production from wells in various regions of Indonesia," Andri concluded.
