Sub-Atlantic Chooses CRP for Apache ROV

Sub-Atlantic Chooses CRP for Apache ROV
CRP Marine, a Lancashire, UK-based leader in oil/gas and marine buoyancy products, manufactures a range of rigid foams and polymer/composite products which are increasingly deployed in the manufacture of ROVs. Aberdeen-based Sub-Atlantic Ltd recently specified CRP Hisyn foam for use in the design of its Apache ROV. Sub-Atlantic originally selected CRP to supply the materials for the Apache on the basis of recommendation, and specified CRP's Hisyn syntactic foam. As a consequence, the contract was awarded to CRP.

The Apache ROV system is a small observation vehicle with a 30 kg payload and high thrust capability to work in high currents. The Apache has an open-frame design with space for additional user supplied equipment and is available for rated 1000 MSW and 2500 MSW.

To develop the Apache ROV, Sub-Atlantic worked closely with CRP, discussing the performance requirements of the proposed ROV. By specifying the density and quality of materials to CRP, the Hisyn syntactic foam was finally selected for the project. Hisyn is a low density composite consisting of hollow glass microspheres dispersed within a polymer-based resin system.
