Superior Energy Services’ Completion Services Division has added the OmniFrac MST (Multi-Stage Single Trip) Frac System to its offerings, Superior Completion Services Vice President, Ed Smith announced.

OmniFrac MST is an open-hole (OH) multi-stage completion system designed for land-based completions in unconventional tight sand, shale and carbonate reservoirs. The system is a lower cost alternative to cemented “plug and perf” completions and allows operators more surface area to the reservoir, increased production and faster stimulation times when compared to conventional completion methods.

“As part of our growth strategy, Superior’s Completion Services Division is expanding into the open-hole horizontal, multi-zone fracturing tool market. The OmniFrac system utilizes packers for zonal isolation and ball-drop actuated sleeves for staged fracture treatments,” said Smith.

OmniFrac MST’s reservoir applications include: tight gas sands, gas and hydrate shales; and coal bed methane. The system includes: a ball actuated isolation valve, pressure actuated frac sleeve, ball actuated frac sleeves with balls made of high strength materials, single element open-hole isolation packers with metal element support and interlock device that prevents the packer from being set while going in the hole; and a permanent hydraulically set hanger packer with hydraulic running tool release. OmniFrac is available internationally.

Smith continued, “Components of the OmniFrac system were designed and engineered in-house utilizing rigid quality processes, qualification and reliability standards and the experience of our industry leading sand control tool engineering team. This first generation system incorporates a unique ball seat design that facilitates easier milling and lower “pop-off” pressures for production initiation. We believe more operators are recognizing the benefits, cost savings and efficiencies of the open-hole system with several of the tight sand and secondary shale plays showing an increase in using this completion technique. As with our sand control tool product line, our customers can expect Superior to introduce “game changing” technology that will add value to their completions in the near future.”
