Siemens has announced that its Industry Sector has sold the Water Technologies business to AEA Investors LP, New York, USA [Press Release Siemens Industry]. The sale includes the capital and service business for water treatment in the municipal and general industry markets, and the new company has been named Evoqua Water Technologies. Siemens will continue as before to focus its water-related activities on automation and drive solutions for the operation of water and sewage treatment plants and seawater desalination plants, which is part of the Industrial Automation Systems Business Unit.

Additionally, the sale does not include Siemens Water Solutions, which is a part of the Siemens Energy Sector, Oil & Gas business, providing water and wastewater treatment solutions to the oil and gas market. Besides the solutions business for water within the Power Generation Division, compressors and blowers for water treatment and ventilation will also remain in the Energy Sector.

Products of the Oil & Gas Water Solutions business:
The Oil & Gas Water Solutions products - that will remain with Siemens - include the core technologies for hydrothermal treatment systems; upstream and downstream Oil & Gas products; and biological (downstream) treatment systems. Project complexity ranges from standalone products to complex systems to fully integrated solutions.

For example, Siemens Water Solutions has provided:

  • a water injection system with sulphate removal for the Dalia field, offshore Angola
  • a pump skid that features Brise™ dissolved gas flotation (DGF) technology as part of a produced water system on the Glas Dowr FPSO, offshore East Timor, Australia
  • horizontal sand filters for the Ain Dar and Shedgum seawater filtration project for Saudi Aramco’s Qurayyah Seawater Treatment Plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • a wastewater treatment system to treat natural gas hydraulic fracturing wastewater (flowback) from Marcellus Shale drilling as well as produced water from operating wells in Tioga and surrounding counties in northeastern Pennsylvania, USA
  • an integrated water treatment solution for the Reficar refinery in Cartagena, Colombia that will form the heart of a combined system for treating both process and waste water
  • water treatment systems for water reuse to ORYX (Q.S.C.)’s gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar
  • a Zimpro® wet air oxidation system to destroy soot generated during the production of syngas at the Long Lake Project site near Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada
  • API oil/water separators, granular activated carbon adsorber systems, multimedia filters and packed bed softeners to Navajo Refining Company’s Artesia, NM, facility
  • a Zimpro® wet air oxidation system to Takreer (Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Co.) to treat refinery spent caustic as part of the company’s expansion of its refinery in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE
  • a complete wastewater treatment solution that includes a powdered activated carbon treatment (PACT®) system, a Zimpro® wet air regeneration (WAR) hydrothermal unit, and a Hydro-Clear® sand filtration system to treat wastewater at China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation’s (Sinopec Corp.) Anqing refinery, in Anhui Province, China
  • a Zimpro® wet air oxidation system to treat wastewater at Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Co., Ltd.’s facility, near the Yangzi River in Jiangsu Province, People’s Republic of China

Specific products staying with Siemens include:

  • Zimpro® wet air oxidation
  • Brise™ dissolved gas flotation pump
  • Vorsep™, Spinsep™, Veirsep™, and Combosep™ flotation systems for produced water treatment
  • Hydrocell™ and Quadricell™ induced gas flotation systems
  • Hydrocyclones
  • Corrugated plate separators
  • Media filters, including Auto-Shell™ and Monosep™ walnut shell filters
  • Water injection/reinjection solutions
  • API separators
  • DAF/DGF separators
  • Petro™ MBR systems
  • EcoRight™ MBR systems
  • PACT®/WAR systems
  • Sulfur Recovery Units
  • Offshore UF technologies
  • All related parts and service for the above and competitive technologies
