Western Geophysical acquiring seismic offshore Algeria

Western Geophysical acquiring seismic offshore Algeria
Western Geophysical in association with Sonatrach, the Algerian National Oil Company, has started the acquisition of a multiclient survey designed to provide 2D high-fold seismic, gravity, and magnetic data coverage for oil and gas exploration in the offshore areas of Algeria. The survey encompasses the acquisition and processing of approximately 6,000 km of seismic data. Data acquisition has begun in the Annaba region.

"This multiclient marine survey represents the continuation of Western Geophysical's long-term relationship with Sonatrach," said Jim White, Western Geophysical's vice president for Multiclient Operations.

"The project includes a training program for Algerian technicians participating in the offshore operations," explained Abdelhak Bouhafs, President Directeur General of Sonatrach. "The training should help Sonatrach personnel to fully understand and master offshore seismic surveying techniques and gain a better understanding of hydrocarbon potential in the Algerian continental shelf."
