WinCatt is a software tool which interacts with external control hardware to provide real time monitoring and control of tubular connection power tong make-up. It has been developed jointly by FARR Canada Limited, and the Centre For Engineering Research Inc. (C-FER) or Farr's exclusive distribution. The graphical user interface and logical software structure combined with powerful control, data acquisition and presentation capabilities enable the user to easily specify make-up parameters, control the make-up process and evaluate quality.
WinCatt was developed with an emphasis on the user's needs for reliability, accuracy, and ease of use. Key features are:
Function
  • monitors torque, turns, and rotational speed during make-up
  • controls speed during make-up (optional)
  • controls based on either final torque or final turns
  • includes calibration management system
  • includes automatic "Start Recording" & "Dump Valve Release"
  • includes automatic descriptive comments with optional over-ride
  • available with optional pressure test system

Analysis
  • analyzes make-up to determine: conformance to manufacturer's specification shouldering point for premium connections shouldering time, delta torque, delta turns
  • reviews results from previous make-ups

Safety
  • limit torque to user specifies maximum during idle time

Sampling Frequency: User defined from 1 - 8000 Hz
500 Hz recommended
Recording Frequency: Based on combination of delta torque and user defined delta time
Calibration Management: Choice of calculated calibration based on load cell manufacturer specifications or local calibration based on user force standard. Shunt calibration with automatic "drift" tracking
Response time: Electronics < .5 ms
Hydraulics - dependent on dump valve - typically 10 - 30 ms
Final torque: Average = optimum torque +/- 1%
Standard deviation < 2% under normal operating conditions
Operating temperature: Computer, 5 - 50oC (40 - 122oF)
Junction box, minus 30 - 80oC (minus 22 -180oF)
Torque accuracy: max error (% of full scale) = sqrt[Local force standard error2 + arm length error2 + 0.152]
Typically less than 1%.
Turns accuracy: max error = +/-one pulse of turns counter
Pressure accuracy: max error (% of F.S.) = sqrt[pressure standard error2 + 0.152]
Typically less than 1%.
