Shawn Anderson, senior research specialist for Fisher Valves, a division of Emerson Process Management, gave a presentation on how the company is leveraging the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to help end users reduce valve-related unplanned downtime.

A major oil refinery’s plant team ran into challenging issues when they attempted to optimize their large primary boiler system, which initially perplexed the plant’s process engineers. After extensive study, it was determined there was a problem controlling the boiler’s burner air-to-fuel mixture ratio.

In the past, calibrating flow meters in remote shale fields required removing the meters and sending them to a calibration lab or using local provers. Now, mass and density calibration has come to the field.
